Norepinephrine injections treat low blood pressure. They work by narrowing your blood vessels. When blood vessels narrow, it takes more pressure for the blood to travel. This increases blood pressure.Injections generally administer a medication as a bolus (or one-time) dose, but can also be used for continuous drug administration. After injection, a medication may be designed to be released slowly, called a depot injection, which can produce long-lasting effects.Norepinephrine is usually given for as long as needed until your body responds to the medication. Some people must receive norepinephrine for several days. Your blood pressure, breathing, and other vital signs will be watched closely while you are receiving norepinephrine.The three main routes are intradermal (ID) injection, subcutaneous (SC) injection and intramuscular (IM) injection. Each type targets a different skin layer: Subcutaneous injections are administered in the fat layer, underneath the skin. Intramuscular injections are delivered into the muscle.
