However, milling process of white rice not only removes husk, bran, and germ but also result in elimination of nutrition mainly fiber content from rice. Brown rice preferred by the consumers as it is whole rice and contains overall nutrition. Types of rice traded in the market included red rice, sona masuri rice, idli rice, dosa rice, jeera rice, basmati rice, black rice besides the variants raw rice and parboiled / steam rice in case of red and sona masuri rice. In India, rainy season (planted between June-Aug) contribution is over 85% to total output, while the rest is from post-rainy season. In Karnataka, rice will be grown all across the state with higher contribution from Gangavathi belt. Major rice milling and trading centres for rice in the state are Gangavathi, Sindhanur, Bhadravati, Davangere, K R Nagar, Holenarasipura etc. APMC Yard Yashwanthpura, Bengaluru is the main terminal market or trading centre for rice.
