A drink made of lemon juice and lemon infusion was called lemonade in the XVIIth century. This is the origin of the term Limonade which means lemonized.
First company that started production of this refreshing drink in carbonated form was Schwepp & Co. Later it commenced to sweeten water with raspberry and fruit syrups. As the natural syrup was quite expensive, it got replaced with various artificial flavors. Lemonade consisting of the citric acid and flavor was first made in 1833. After starting extraction of citric acid from lemon Lemonade acquired leadership among carbonated fruit drinks. Lemon's Superior Sparkling Ginger Ale became the first registered trademark of soft drinks.
Due to its cooling features and delicious taste Lemonade got widespread shortly.
Basis of lemonade is represented by a blend, mix of ingredients, often prepared through cold method. There are also semi - hot and hot methods. When preparing a drink, sugar, citric acid and composition made of various flavors are used. For instance, in making so-called Citro, sugar, lemon juice, mandarin, orange and lemon extracts are added. This drink is of light yellow color with pleasant, refreshing taste and featured citrus flavor.
There used to be various types of lemonades. For example, "Cloudy" lemonade in the United States and Canada and mix of lemon juice, granulated sugar, salt, pepper and noncarbonated water Nimbu Paani in Pakistan and Iran.
"Fizzy" lemonade was especially popular in Paris. Carbonated lemonade Schweppes was favored in Britain, Australia and New Zealand. In Sweden any soft, noncarbonated water used to be called lemonade.
