India is the largest producer of Drumsticks. It is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Moringa, which is the only genus in the family Moringaceae. It has slight asparagus taste. Nutritionally, drumstick pods and leaves are of great value as sources of carotene, calcium, phosphorus and vitamin C.

Benefits and uses:

The leaves of this tree are also used in a variety of dishes. Leaves, in fresh or powdered form, are used as additive to salads, soups, curries, and gravies.

It is used in the treatment of ascites, rheumatism and venomous bites as antiseptic and as cardiac and circulatory stimulants.

Paste of the Moringa leaves is used as an external application for wounds. Poultice of the leaves is useful in reducing glandular swellings.

Leaves also have anti-inflammatory, anodyne, anthelmintic, ophthalmic properties and are rich in Vitamin A and C.

They are useful in scurvy, wounds, tumors, inflammations and helminthasis.
