muscovite mica is flexible, elastic and tough having high tensile strength; it can withstand substantial mechanical pressure perpendicular to the plane but the lamination has cleavage so that it can be easily split into thin, chemically resistant and elastic sheets that are fireproof, infusible, incombustible and non-flammable. Muscovite can resist temperatures of about 500 degrees celsius.
