You may locate the ventilator by inner hole of base flashing or accurate round modle. The ideal installation position of a ventilator is as close to the ridge as possible. When locating,lay aside the base flashing on the roof and make the upward inclined edge of base flashing inset the gap below the metal flashing of the ridge 10cm or so.
