Mehendi (also called henna) is a large bush that’s pruned back several times a year to harvest the henna leaves. The best crops come after a prolonged drought and high temperatures, when the rains have just begun. The world capital for the Mehendi crop is Sojat, in Rajasthan, India an arid region where the noon time temperature often crosses 120 degrees. Typically three grades of Mehendi are available in the local market. Grade A is the purest and most expensive form, comprising the healthy leaves and shoots of the Mehendi plant. Grade B comprises the stalks and related plant matter, while Grade C is scrap, grit, and everything else. Grade A Mehendi will be softer, and more uniform to the touch (without showing the obvious results of an inferior grade Mehendi being pulverized to simulate a higher grade) and impart a leafy, almost harsh aura if lightly inhaled. Grade A is highest in the active ingredient, and most suitable for the treatment of hair and scalp.

Nogi and Company was established in 1911 by the late Ganesh Balkrishna Vader. Legend goes that the young Ganesh, enthused by patriotic fervor, asked his guru, Shri Satam Maharaj how he could contribute to the fledging Independence movement. Shri Satam Maharaj laughed, and picked up a piece of charcoal lying nearby and threw it at Ganesh, saying, ‘Do something with this that will reduce our dependence on foreign imports, while giving Indians a good, quality product for their daily use.’ Thus was the popular mass-market ‘Bandar Chhaap Kaalaa Dantmanjan’ (MBBTP) born.
Today the third generation of the family is at the helm, with the same dedication to quality, locally sourced ingredients, and small batch production methods.
For over a 100 years, the team at Nogi have endeavored to provide MBBTP with the same attention to quality and detail, and to the original formula enshrined in the ancient tome of Ayurvedic formulations, the ‘Siddhayog Samhita’. The product is widely available in India and is even exported to the Middle East, Western Europe and the USA for discerning adherents of the Indian Ayurvedic tradition.
Over the years, Nogi has stayed true to the Ayurvedic tradition, and added several other products to it’s range (Chandrika Brahmi Hair Oil, Multani Mati, Gulab Jal). The latest addition has been ‘Nogi Mehendi’ based on popular demand from our consumers.
Our unique conditions of heat, humidity, pollution, and water and air-borne industrial contaminants, including the use of highly chlorinated water levy a stress on the body’s nature defenses. One of the major health detriments has become fall in hair quality, premature greying of hair, and scalp irritants, leading to premature and persistent hair loss.
Consumers across the length and breadth of India are now adopting Nogi product like Nogi Mehendi, Nogi Rose Water, Nogi Multani Mati, Nogi Chandrika Oil, Nogi Monkey Tooth Powder etc.
As our consumer base grows, we look forward to serving ever-increasing numbers of our citizens, consistent with the spirit enshrined by our founder in 1911.
