Therapeutic properties of marjoram sweet essential oil are aphrodisiac, analgesic, antiseptic, antiviral, bactericidal, fungicidal, antispasmodic, carminative, digestive, diuretic, emenagogue, cephalic, cordial, diaphoretic, hypotensive, laxative, nervine, sedative, stomachic, expectorant, vasodilator, and vulnerary.
Marjoram oil is extracted through steam distillation process of the fresh and dried leaves and flowering tops of the plant Origanum marjorana or Origanum hortensis. The almost colorless (light pale yellowish) oil emits warm piquant smell.
The chemical contents of Marjoram sweet essential oil include Sabinene, alpha and gamma Terpinene, Cymene, Terpinolene, Linalool, Sabinene Hydrate, Linalyl Acetate, and Terpineol among others.
The oil is not known to have toxicity, irritability, or sensitivity. However, its usage should be avoided during pregnancy.
