Contact SupplierA low voltage coil tends to give more power than the one of high voltage and is more robust as it uses thicker wire, voltage limits (high and low) depends on the size of the solenoids and its rating.
A solenoid can be wound for any voltage but even then in general high voltages on the smallest solenoid and very low voltage on the larger AC solenoid are both to be avoided.
A good AC solenoid if correctly used should be quite when closed, but it has fundamental tendency to produce hum and can be overcome by correct design and accurate assembly. Dirt on the mating faces or mechanical over load, may also make it noisy DC solenoid is fundamentally quiet. DC solenoids are often used on rectified AC which may be either full wave or smooth half wave. In either cases, the value of capacitor across the DC output will affect the voltage and it is important that the solenoid should be wound for the on-load voltage of the power as a whole.
