magnesite is a carbonate of magnesium (mgco3), which is known as "raw magnesite". This raw material as such is not used in any industry except in chemical industry in small quantity. Magnesite when heated to 800°c to 1000°c all the co2 content in it is driven off, the residue so obtained is known as calcined magnesite (mgo).

typical applications
it is used for manufacture of refractory bricks largely used in steel industry. It is also a valuable basic refractory for use in electric furnaces, rotary cement kilns or for purpose which requires a basic lining capable of withstanding a high temperature.
the most important use is the manufacture of oxychloride or sorel cement.
It is used in the manufacture of epsom salt (mgso4).
