All LED lighting is made up of light packages in one form or other. A COB or ‘chips on board’ light is a type of led package.
In Led Cob Spot Lights, single LED chips are placed directly on a circuit board (or substrate) which has thermal properties to disperse heat. Heat dissipation is a very important aspect of LED lighting because it can have a major impact on the life expectancy of the luminaries. Traditional LED chips are not placed directly on the substrate and therefore there is greater thermal resistance. As a result of improved heat dissipation, Led Cob Spot Lights can have a higher LED chip density and therefore achieve higher light levels while maintaining or improving life expectancy. COB down lights and spotlights are characterized by the yellow chip (package) visible inside the reflector. Sometimes a diffuser or cover is placed on the light to hide the COB chip.
Illumination offers very high luminous fluxes from small size packages and thus allows the flexible design of luminaries. This gives you more freedom when designing a luminary. COB packages usually have excellent uniformity of light from the light emitting surface, this is important e.g. if you want to avoid multiple shadow effect, which might occur with SMD based solution. It is also very easy to test LED Cob Spot Lights but all LED products that are manufactured in Illuminations is well under the parameter for company law safety and procedure in terms of quality. We can see that COB LEDs have been very important development step in LED lighting business. This great package design has allowed increasing powers used inside one LED package tremendously. Also, one good indicator of the success of COBs is that today every major LED manufacturer and package maker like illuminations has COB LEDs in their selection.
