Aramid fiber is an excellent aromatic polyamide that is widely identified or known as kevlar fabrics. With high tenacity and low thermal shrinkage, it is very similar to S glass. It has been designed to be flame resistant and self-extinguishing with the charring at 800°F (400°C).

Fabrics woven with the use of Kevlar aramid fiber boast of comparatively very high strength. They are abrasion and cut resistant . With appreciable environmental stability, they are able to retain their qualities under any temperatures. Moreover, they are remarkably chemical resistant against acids, alkalis, ketones, alcohols, oil.

The fabrics are mostly used in polymer matrix laminates like, ballistic armor and un-laminated layers for protective apparel. They are used in so many applications like, welding/ cutting protection, heat and flame shielding, molten splash protection.
