Our proposed interventions include:
1. Nutrition Security: Establishing and maintaining school kitchen gardens and terrace gardens, enabling students to learn about Rural/Urban agriculture, nutrition, and environmental sustainability.
2. Crop with Assured Buy-Back Arrangements: Introducing economically viable crops like papaya, moringa leaves, and aromatic crops, providing students with hands-on experience in cultivation while ensuring a guaranteed market for their produce.
3. Agri-Entrepreneurship Model: Empowering students with entrepreneurial skills by involving them in the cultivation, marketing, and sale of their produce, fostering a sense of responsibility and financial literacy.
4. Farmer's Field School: Conducting practical training sessions for students, teachers, and parents, imparting knowledge on sustainable agricultural practices, integrated pest management, and soil health.
5. Mini Tool Banking: Establishing a system for lending essential agricultural tools and equipment to schools, enabling them to maintain their gardens efficiently.
6. Manual Irrigation Process: Introducing cost-effective and sustainable manual irrigation techniques, promoting water conservation and hands-on learning.
7. Digital Monitoring System: Implementing a digital platform for monitoring and evaluating the progress of the program, ensuring transparency and data-driven decision-making.
8. Training of Trainers: Conducting comprehensive training programs for teachers and facilitators, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively implement and sustain the program.
9. Capacity Building: Organizing workshops and seminars for stakeholders, including school administrators, teachers, and community members, to enhance their understanding of the program's objectives and foster a supportive environment.
10. Impact Assessment: Conducting periodic assessments to measure the program's impact on student learning, health, and overall well-being, enabling continuous improvement and adaptation.
Nutrition Security Program Through this program, we aim to address malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies by enabling families and schools to grow their own nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables. Our multipronged approach includes:
Kitchen Gardens: We will work with households to set up low-cost kitchen gardens utilizing vertical spaces and containers. Families will learn techniques for year-round cultivation of vegetables, herbs, and fruits.
School Kitchen Gardens: In partnership with local schools, we will create educational gardens on campus grounds. Students will gain hands-on experience in gardening, learning about nutrition, and consuming fresh produce from the gardens.
Terrace Gardens: For urban communities with limited space, we will promote terrace gardening using innovative methods like hydroponics and raised beds. This will increase access to fresh produce in densely populated areas.
Through this integrated approach, we aim to enhance nutrition security, promote sustainable agriculture, and create lasting behavioral changes toward healthier diets.
