Compliance with ISO 17712 requires independent confirmation in three areas: -
Physical testing to determine a seal's classification for physical strength.
Process auditing of supplier security-related business processes.
Physical testing that earns a "Pass" grade for evidence of tampering.
The ISO/PAS 17712:2013 standard need that container freight seals meet or exceed certain standards for strength and durability so as to prevent accidental breakage, early deterioration (due to weather conditions, chemical action, etc.) or undetectable tampering under usual usage. ISO/PAS 17712:2013 also needs that each seal be clearly and legibly marked with a unique recognition number.
