Hence, it is preferred over other disinfectants in lengthier surgeries. It is also used effectively in the treatment of bed sores and vaginitis.
Povidone Iodine is used as a 2.5% buffered solution for the prevention of neonatal conjunctivitis. Pleurodesis is a procedure that is performed for the prevention of plerothorax and pleural effusion. Povidone Iodine is used in pleurodesis as well.
Use of povidone iodine may cause skin irritation as side effect. It may also cause high level of sodium in blood and kidney problems if used on large wounds.
