Solar Store, Lucknow, India is into trading, manufacturing & consultancy activities offering renewable energy solutions since 2008. We started by offering 2 KW solar systems costing Rs 3 lakhs to meet the basic electricity requirements of a city home. People replied that they did not have Rs 3 lakhs to invest in solar and even if the money was available they would park it in a bank fixed deposit & use the interest earned to pay for electricity bills. We then converted a Maruti 800 into an electric car with a range of 60 kms (Rs 3 lakhs) and offered it along with 2 KW solar panels (Rs 2 lakhs) at a total cost of Rs 5 lakhs. This could save petrol costs in office commutes and also reduce electricity bill costs. However people were not willing to pay us Rs 3 lakhs as at this price level they would prefer buying from an established player.
Based on the market feedback received we were asked not to offer high end solar solutions and offer only low cost products as only low cost items can sell in India. So we spent 2 years to develop the AAA to AA cell converters at a fraction of the cost for which we were earlier importing for Rs 30. We are now offering it an international price lower than China. Later we also developed solar AA / AAA cell chargers costing Rs 200. Solar mobile chargers cost approx Rs 1,000. India uses around 360 crore AA / AAA / C & D cells every year which get thrown away after single use. The rechargeable NiMh cells we are offering last 1,000 charge / discharge cycles and along with our solar cell chargers can be charged anywhere using sunlight. 2 rechargeable AAA cells + 2 x AAA to AA cell converters + solar cell charger can be offered at common man friendly price of Rs 300.
