General
The Popular pendulum impact tester model YIT – 300 is built for conducting charpy and IZOD tests on ferrous & nonferrous metals. The test methods conform to IS: 1598-1977. IS : 1757-1973, IS : 1499-1977 and BS : 131 : Part I, II & III-1972 This tester is calibrated as per IS : 3766-1977 or BS : 131 : Part IV-1972. Another pendulum impact tester model YIT-216 is built exculsive3ly for CHARPY test as per ASTM-E 23-1982 for metals. The small pendulum impact tester model YIT-15 and YIT-4 are having 15 Joules & 4 Joules impact energy conforming to IS : 867 or ASTM D-256-73 or BS : 2782 Suitable for plastic, insulating materials etc.
 
The pendulum is mounted on antifriction bearings. On release, the pendulum swings down to break the specimen & the energy absorbed in doing so is measured as the difference between the height of drop before rupture & the height-of rise after rupture of the test specimen & is read from the position of maximum pointer on the dial scale. The Charpy release mechanism is operated by two levers just near the dial, incorporating important safety measure for prevention of accidental release of the pendulum.
