Ifosfamide is a synthetic analogue of the nitrogen mustard cyclo- phosphamide with antineoplastic activity. Ifosfamide alkylates and forms dna crosslinks, thereby preventing dna strand separation and dna replication. This agent is a prodrug that must be activated through hydroxylation by hepatic microsomal enzymes. Ifosfamide is positional isomer of cyclophosphamide which is active as an alkylating agent and an immunosuppressive agent.

ifosfamide is a colourless, crystalline powder. It is soluble in water (52 mgml), methanol, dmso (52 mgml), and ethanol (52 mgml) with melting range of 39°c to 42°c.
