Contact SupplierA Central Venous Catheter is a device placed into any one of the large veins in the neck, chest or groin region for long term venous access.
Indications
• Administration of hyperosmolar solutions including total parenteral nutrition (>900 mOsm/kg).
• To measure central venous pressure (CVP)
• Used in absence of any available peripheral venous access
• Infusion of irritant medication which cannot be given peripherally
• Haemodialysis / plasmapharesis
• Temporary pacing
• Rapid infusion of fluid
• For placement of pulmonary wedge catheters
• Drug administration during CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)
Catheter material is the best possible material used for a catheter because of the following properties:
• Soft, kink resistant
• Offers elasticity of rubber combined with toughness and durability of metal
• Excellent wear properties and elastic memory
• Abrasion resistant
• Polyurethane softens considerably within minutes of insertion in the body. This reduces the risk of vascular trauma.
• Fat resistant and thromboresistant
• Lesser adsorption on catheter tubing, thereby minimizing thrombus formation.
• Flexible tip
• Clear lumens for good visualization • Outstanding resistance to general weather conditions, moisture, fluctuating temperatures -90° to 175° F
• Surface is impermeable to water
• Cost effective
There are three categories based on the following parameters
1. According to method of insertion
• Non-tunnelled
• Tunnelled
2.According to site of insertion
• Peripherally inserted CVC (PICC)
• Centrally inserted CVC (CICC)
3.According to number of lumens
• Single lumen
• Multiple lumen
Centum trio is the triple lumen central venous catheter is the double lumen. The three lumens have different utility, each catering to a specific class of medication ,with some overlapping.
The proximal lumen is used for the following medicaments:
• Intravenous medications
• Crystalloid administration
• Blood sampling
• Infusion of blood based products
Distal lumen can be used for
• Colloid administration
• Blood administration
• Additional medication
Medial lumen is for
Exclusive Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) Any other medication if TPN is not anticipated
