hydroxyurea is an anti-neoplastic agent which belongs to the group of anti-metabolites used to treat certain types of cancers of the skin known as squamous cell carcinomas. It is available in the oral dosage form.\rhydroxyurea capsules is used to treat melanomas, resistant chronic myelocytic leukemia, and recurrent, metastatic carcinoma of the ovary. It is also used to reduce the frequency of painful conditions and the need for blood transfusions in adult patients with sickle cell anemia. It acts by inhibiting dna synthesis, without interfering the rna or protein synthesis.\rhydroxyurea capsule is readily absorbed after oral administration and widely distributed in the body. It is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation and in patients with bone marrow depression, severe anemia. Concurrent use of hydroxyurea capsules with other myelosuppressive agents or radiation therapy may increase the conditions of bone marrow depression.\r\rrecommended dose:\rthe initial dose of hydroxyurea capsules is 15 mg/kg/day as a single dose.
