It commemorates the merger of Transilvania (away from Romania) with Hungary in 1848, bearing the following inscriptions:pro deo et patria. pro patria et libertate vitae. patrona hungarie virgo maria. josepho bem duci in transilvania kolozsvar. 25. XII 1848. The sword has a slightly curved steel blade, 87 cms./34.1/2" long. It has a steel scabbard with 2 carrying rings. Its three bar hilted brass hand-guard is similar to mid European swords of the 19th century. Its grip has a leather lining bound with twisted brass wire. Total length (including scabbard) is 107 cms/42".Â
