Stainless steel hollow bar is used in conditions where corrosion is an issue and applications where it is more economical to use a hollow section rather than bore out solid stainless steel bar.This material has been very useful and effective in many industries. Hollow bar includes several grades of austenitic stainless steel as well as duplex stainless steel. Hollow bar sizes ranges from outside diameter 20 to 406 mm. Austenitic stainless steel & duplex stainless steels have properties that give them a different machinability compared to carbon steel or ferritic and martensitic stainless steels. Hollow bar minimizes material waste & reduces the total machining requiremens by avoiding the initial drilling operation.
Hollow bars are fully threaded, "disposable" drill rods capable of drilling holes utilizing sacrificial bits that will advance the drill string to the required depth and then allow them to be grouted in place. This process creates the steel reinforcing portion of an anchor or pile. Hollow bar products are a valuable and multi-functional addition to the geotechnical contractor's toolbox. They can be used as tie back or tie down anchors, rock anchors, soil nails and micropiles in a large array of challenging applications.
