These are calcium aluminate cement binders produced by the sintering method from selected alumina & lime containing raw materials. They are the heart of the refractory castable which is a combination of refractory aggregates, refractory cement, and special additives.Castables have an advantage over shaped refractories as they are cheaper, easy to store and apply, and have low lead time of supply. Castables must be volume stable after application and heat up to high temperature. A good alumina binder is very necessary to achieve this property.
