Goliath Gantry Cranes

Goliath Gantry Cranes – Gantry Cranes or Goliath cranes move on rails supported on floor level instead of rails placed on gantry placed on elevated level as in case of EOT cranes. These cranes are the correct lifting arrangement solution in cases where existing column/gantry structure cannot bear the wheel load of an overhead crane. The other criteria to choose these type of cranes are: loads need to handle outside rail span or there is a requirement to relocate the crane after completion of work at a particular site. These factors eliminate the cost of workshop building and hence reduce the capital cost for the client.

Gantry cranes can be broadly categorized into two categories: Single Girder and Double Girder depending on customer requirements. A.P. Industries provide gantry cranes customized for Safe working load, span, lifting height, cantilever sections, motion speeds, class of duty and other factors depending on customer requirement. Power supply for gantry cranes are provided through cable reeling drum, DG set, shrouded bus bar or angle iron bus bar depending on site conditions.

During design stage of outdoor gantry cranes stability especially under storm conditions are the major parameters to be checked. The cross travel and long travel motor gearbox unit is designed to overcome wind resistance opposing the crane movement in addition to the power required to accelerate and move the safe working load at full speed. Other points to take care for outdoor gantries are: corrosion allowance in design of structural members, drilled holes on walkway to avoid accumulation of rain water, covers for trolley, Long travel motor/ brake. Other features like load cell, human sensor, ALSI, anti – collision device etc can be provided based on customer requirements.
