Generic naratrex (naratriptan): 1 mg x 2’s and 2.5 mg x 2’s tablet
manufactured by sun pharma. Naratriptan belongs to the class of selective serotonin (5ht1) against preparations. Used to relieve migraine. This medication is a triptan drug (abortive medication) prescribed for migraine. The medication results in the contraction of blood vessels surrounding the brain and also stops the release of substances that activates the pain.
naratrex (naratriptan) tablets are not intended for the prophylactic therapy of migraine or for use in the management of hemiplegic or basilar migraine . Safety and effectiveness of naratrex (naratriptan) tablets have not been established for cluster headache, which is present in an older, predominantly male population.
dosage:
adult:
1-2.5 mg at the onset of headache. If there is no response, do not take a 2nd dose. If headache returns after an intial response, may repeat dose 4 hr
max: 5 mg 24 hr
special precaution:
use only if there is a clear diagnosis of migraine. Exclude unrecognised coronary artery or cv disease before use in post menopausal women, men >40 yr and those with risk factors for ischaemic heart disease. Not to be used prophylactic-ally. Mild or moderate hepatic renal impairment. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy and lactation. Hypersensitivity to sulphonamides. Not recommended in elderly patients.
