Gamma-butyrolacton is used as a solvent for polymers including polyacrylonitrile, cellulose acetate, polymethyl methacrylate, polystyrene, as a diluent in nail polish removers, paint strippers and adhesives (such as glue or super glue). Gamma-butyrolactone is also a solvent in the electrolyte for capacitors.
