The Himalayan Badri cow is a purebred (non-hybrid) desi cattle breed that produces high quality A2 milk.

Why is Badri cows milk nutrient-rich?

Badri cows are rarely stall-fed, instead, they feed on specific herbs and shrubs of the Himalayan Hills that are of high medicinal value. This is the reason why Badri cow milk is rich in nutrients and easily digestible. Infact, Disease resistance is a very important characteristic of this breed due to its strong immunity. It remains healthy mostly throughout life, as these cattle are fed on pure vegetation and live in natural and fresh, pollution-free condition of the hilly areas of Uttarakhand & Himalayas.

According to research conducted by the Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology & IIT Roorkee, the milk of Badri cow contains almost 90% A2 beta-casein proteins which makes it one of the highest carrier of this protein among all other indigenous breeds.

    The Origin of Badri Cow

Badri cow also popularly known as Pahadi cow is an inhabitant of the hilly regions of Uttarakhand. These cows are of small size with an average weight of 200-250 kgs which makes it easier for them to roam and feed on natural grass & plants. Since Badri cow can only yield 1-3 liters of milk per day, unlike Jerseys and Holsteins which can yield up to 10-15 liters, Badris milk is nutrient-rich and of superior quality.

A research article by the Journal  of  Immunology and  Immunopathology that did a Comparative Analysis of Serum Biochemicals of  Sahiwal, Badri, Cross-Breed and Tulsi Cows found that the Badri cows show the maximum perfect results regarding the standard values of lipid profile, mineral profile and more. The tests performed during this research project depict the worth of indigenous cows over Cross-Breed and especially of cows of the hilly regions (Badri cows).

Badri cow has got a certification from the National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) in Karnal, Uttarakhand, as the states first cattle breed.
