It is deliquescent, that is it absorbs moisture and becomes wet when kept in open environment. It is highly soluble in water but not as much soluble in organic solvents like ethers etc. It is available in many form, but here we are selling caustic soda as flakes. Wherever strong base is required this chemical is used mostly.
