Ethyl Acetoacetate

Ethyl acetoacetate (CH₃COCH₂COOC₂H₅), also called acetoacetic ester, an ester widely used as an intermediate in the synthesis of many varieties of organic chemical compounds. Industrially it is employed in the manufacture of synthetic drugs and dyes. Ethyl acetoacetate appears as a colorless liquid with a fruity odor. Flash point 185°F. Boiling point 365°F. May cause adverse health effects if ingested or inhaled. May irritate to skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Used in organic synthesis and in lacquers and paints.
