These are used in chemical process vessels, piping and heat exchangers, pulp mill digesters, bleach washers, chip pre-steaming vessels, and more. It has high resistance to abrasion, erosion and cavitation erosion. The corrosion resistance of the minimum resistant duplex stainless steels is superior than that for the most frequently used grades of stainless steels, i.e. 304 and 316. They are also used in pulp and paper industry – digesters, bleaching equipment, and stock-handling systems. However, because descaling is somewhat difficult in comparison with Type 304, alkali immersion before acid pickling, and if possible, shot blasting are extremely effective.
