The dried plum, or prune, is one of the most popular and also the most common dried fruit. Today the U.S.A is the largest producer of plum varieties. France is second, while Serbia markets significant quantities. Chile, however, is the big newcomer and has overtaken France. This elongated country by the sea, next to its larger neighbour Argentina that also produces plums, presents itself more and more as a talented producer of walnuts and dried fruit, including prunes. Chile also produces prunes and exports significant quantities to Western Europe.
