Cyclopentane is used in the manufactures of rigid polyurethane foam as found in many domestic & commercial appliances such as refrigerators & freezers, replacing environmentally damaging alternatives such as CFC-11 and HCFC-141b. Cyclopentane is a highly flammable hydrocarbon with a class a rating equivalent to Petrol. It is a colourless liquid with a petrol like odour and has a boiling point of 49 degree celcius. As per local laws which govern the storage and handling of cyclopentane, it has to stored in a proper underground storage tank and further blanketed by nitrogen for further safety.
