The CUSA ShearTip™ brings fast, efficient fibrous tissue removal capability to the market-leading CUSA EXcel®+ and CUSA EXcel® Tissue Ablation Systems. Combined with the compact and powerful CUSA EXcel® 36 kHz handpiece, the CUSA ShearTip™ enables fragmentation of tenacious, collagen-rich and fibrous tissues. The CUSA ShearTip™ has been designed to remove tissues, such as fibrous meningiomas, that are resistant to fragmentation with traditional ultrasonic tips.
The revolutionary design of the CUSA ShearTip™ creates shear stresses within fibrous tissue by directing intersecting waves of ultrasonic energy from tapered serrations on the tip end. While energy from traditional ultrasonic tips tends to stretch fibers longitudinally, ShearWave™ Technology causes fibers to break by cutting through them. This increases the removal rate of tenacious, fibrous, and collagen-rich tissues up to 50%, enabling the CUSA EXcel®+ and CUSA EXcel® to address a wider range of tissue types while helping save valuable time in the operating room.
When used with the TissueSelect® function, the CUSA ShearTip™ provides a wider margin of safety, allowing surgeons to Operate with Confidence™ around critical structures.
