Cumin seeds evolved from Mediterranean and soon was embraced by India and other Asian countries. Cumin is grown in India, Egypt, Syria, Turkey, China and parts of America. The current yield of cumin seeds in world is around 300,000 tons per year and in India is approximately 200,000 tons per year with Gujarat and Rajasthan being the leading producers. Cumin seeds are added to majority of dishes as it imparts subtle natural sweetness to the cuisines.
