The protection tubes are used to protect the thermocouples:

• From deleterious gases
• From corrosive fluids
• From extreme pressures in a pressurized vessel
• Against mechanical damage

Honeywell’s thermocouple protection tubes include an element comprising thermocouple wires, double bore ceramic insulators, terminal block, protecting tube and terminal head. The purpose of the thermocouple connection or terminal head is to provide facilities for making positive electrical connections between the thermocouple and extension lead wires and to provide a means of attachment for a protecting tube and extension wire conduit.
