Presto’s Cobb sizing tester is designed and manufactured for quickly determining the quantity of water absorbed by a paper or cardboard in a specific time period. The Cobb value of a substance means the quantity of water absorbed in a given time by a 1 square meter sample of cardboard, corrugated board, or a paper under different conditions. The testing instrument provides accurate and measurable results.

The Cobb sizing test is done to determine an adequacy level of paperboard, in which a test sample is first weighed and then placed in a watertight rubber base cylindrical ring. Now, the cylindrical container is filled with sufficient quantity of water, exposing the upper side of the sample to the water. After a specific time period, the water is drained, and remaining water blotted off the surface of the paper, and the weight of the sample is measured again. The increased weight the sample has gained is its water absorbency.
