**Ceftriaxone 1000 mg + Sulbactam 500 mg Injection** is a combination antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It contains two active ingredients:
- **Ceftriaxone**, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, effectively killing and preventing the growth of bacteria.
- **Sulbactam**, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, helps protect ceftriaxone from being broken down by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by some resistant bacteria, enhancing the efficacy of the antibiotic.
This combination is typically used to treat severe infections, such as those affecting the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, soft tissues, bones, joints, and the abdomen. It is administered via intramuscular or intravenous injection under medical supervision.
**Indications**:
- Bacterial infections resistant to standard treatments
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Pneumonia, urinary tract infections, septicemia, and more
**Dosage and Administration**:
The dose is determined by a healthcare professional based on the type and severity of the infection, as well as patient-specific factors such as age, weight, and kidney function.
**Precautions**:
- Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to ceftriaxone, sulbactam, or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
- Use with caution in individuals with liver or kidney dysfunction.
- Not recommended for use in neonates with jaundice due to risk of bilirubin displacement.
**Side Effects**:
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, injection site reactions, and rash. Severe allergic reactions and changes in blood counts may occur but are rare.
