Pharmaceutical grade castor oil is produced by first pressing of castor seed, without losing medicinal qualities. It is a clear, brilliant colorless or slight yellow, viscous, from rancid odor.
USP grade refers to the castor oil prepared for united states pharmacopoeia (usp) norms. BP grade refers to the castor oil prepared for british pharmacopoeia (usp) norms.
This oil is widely used in pharmaceutical applications.
End use application for castor oil today is as a raw material for an enormous variety of sophisticate products, such as lubricants, plastics, artificial fibers, paints, varnishes and synthetic resins, plasticizers and surfactants, fungicides, cosmetics, printing inks, soaps, artificial leather, hydraulic fluids, dyeing aids and textile finishing materials.
Pharmaceutical and Drug:
Therapeutically, modern drugs are rarely given in a pure chemical state, so most active ingredients are combined with excipients or additives as lubricant component of coating for vitamin and mineral tablets.
Castor oil, or a castor oil derivative such as kolliphor el (polyethoxylated castor oil, a nonionic surfactant), is added to many modern drugs.
