Cadmium plating is employed in the aircraft industries and electrical industries where it has a specific advantage over zinc. These include low contact potential in contact with aluminium, high lubricity, higher resistance to alkalis and to sea water. Cadmium is widely used on moving parts or threaded assemblies as it has natural lubricity, minimal change in dimension due to low voluminous corrosion products.
