We felt quite the buzz when we FINALLY found Bumble Bee Jasper at our last visit to the Tucson Gem Show. It is a notoriously difficult mineral to score because the volcanic mine where Bumblebee Jasper is located has activated from its previously dormant state. Yikes! It comes to us exclusively from Mount Papandayan in West Java, Indonesia. When sulfur gas is emitted from a volcano, it burns a bright blue color. As it rises and comes in contact with cool air, the gas changes into the bright yellow solid that gives Bumble Bee Jasper its name.
