    Svanuri salt includes about eight herbs from the mountains of the Svanetia region; once compiled, all the ingredients of Svanuri salt seasoning are carefully grind in a wooden mortar and pestle.

    Fully prepared Svanuri salt seasoning stays a bit wet because of the garlic contained in it.
    Svanuri salt contains only natural ingredients and doesn’t contain any food preservatives or GMO products. It is also free of MSG and animal bi-products.

Svanetia is a high-mountain region and is extremely hard to reach; until recently this area was reachable only by foot, and luggage was often carried in. Highways appeared here only at the end of 20th century. It is quite natural that a wide range of foodstuffs were for a long time in short supply (including salt), and people did everything possible to economize them. The inventive hill people of the region found the way out of this situation by mixing precious salt with various herbs and spices. In this way less salt was used for the dishes and the same amounts of salt held out for longer time. The seasoning the hill men got as a result of this culinary experiment had a surprising and unique taste, and people liked it so much that they started using it on a regular basis. The recipe for this seasoning was long kept under wraps by all Svans and was handed down from generation to generation.
