Contact SupplierGrade 1 Brass is referred to as a free-cutting brass or free-machining brass. Essentially a free-machining brass is an alloy intended for use as screw machine stock in applications. These applications necessitate the use of operations such as milling, turning, thread rolling, drilling, as well as tapping. And they are often recommended by Brass Rod Suppliers due to their superior machinability rating.
A specification that covers free-machining brass is the ASTM B16. The specified ASTM B16 Brass Rod Grade is well suited for use in high-speed screw machining applications in addition to being used for moderate thread rolling applications as well. The specification, similar to many others covers several parameters including the chemical composition or the chemistry, the temper used on the components such as the Grade 1 Brass Rod.
Other important characteristics of covered by the ASTM B16 include the tensile strength properties, Rockwell hardness, as well as the shape requirements of the UNS C37700 Brass Rod Grade 1. Grade UNS C37700 rods created under this specification have a set of valued properties. Chief amongst them is its Excellent Forgeability. Like most copper alloys, the Brass Rod Grade 1 Casting has good resistance to corrosion, while also demonstrating excellent hot workability. The fabrication of Brass Rod Grade 1 may be practiced by using techniques such as hot forging and pressing or heading and upsetting, or hot heading and upsetting, machining.
