Construction
Brake Motor is combination of an AC induction motor and an electromagnetic DC fail safe brake.
As shown in the figure brae motor consists of the following

• AC induction motor (Foot/Flange)
• Electromagnetic DC fail safe brake type USB or UMB
• Cooling fan after the brake for better heat dissipation and cooling of motor & brake as well
• Rectifier unit either can be provided near to motor terminal (for AC switching) or given separately to mount them in the control panel (for DC switching)
• Manual release is an optional feature and will be provided only with our UMB series brakes

Switching
There are three different methods of switching : Separate DC supply from control panel to the brake coil, {figure 1)
AC Switching
Brake coil connections are shown at AC side AC switching is recommended when braking time is not critical.
DC Switching
Switching is carried out on DC side. Once braking of the motor takes place intermittently, DC switching must be carried out. A Resistor and Capicitor network must be connected across the brake coil and parallel to it.

• Solid state AC to DC rectifier will be supplied separately.
• Brake motors with flame proof/crane duty/textile duty specification can also be offered on request.
