In India, raisin is mostly produced in Sangli, Solapur and Nasik districts of Maharashtra, Bijapur district in Karnataka, and some parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab. However major produce is derived from the State of Maharashtra and Karnataka in India. The technique for making raisin has been known since ancient times and evidence of their production has been found in the writings of ancient Egyptians (Mullins et. al, 1992). Raisin is made by dehydrating grapes in a process using the heat of the sun or a mechanical process of oven drying
