Skyscreen was established on 1st July 2008. Today, the company represents many leading global brands in screen and textile printing industry such as Ulano, USA (for screen making films, chemicals and accessories); Nittoku-Japan (for Smart Mesh); Marabu-Germany (screen inks); Fimor-France (Squeegees); Zhongyi-China (UV special effects varnishes), Stahls-USA (Heat Transfer vinyl films and Heat Press for garment decoration), and GCC-Taiwan (Plotter cutter), Vikiallo (Vinyl Remover), and it plans to add more into its growing product portfolio.
10 years of Skyscreen: MD's statement:
First of all, I am delighted and at the same time very much thankful to our Principals who are global brands, our valued customers who are loyal and royal, our channel partners who have been instrumental in selling our products, and employees who stood by Skyscreenduring the last 10 years. And of course I cannot ignore our partners in progress in particular, and media, friends and well-wishers in general
There is more than 20-year history behind the 10 successful years of Skyscreen. I have been into screen printing business since 1992. I joined hands with my brother (Raju Brahmbhatt) in his retail counter business at Mumbai’s Khadilkar Road which was a dense wedding cards market. From retail business, we moved onto wholesale business in1995-96. We took distributorship of many reputed brands, and thus a new company Autoscreen was formed (which was synonymous with screen printing those days). We were also distributor for Autotype UK, etc. When we formed Skyscreen, Nittoku was new to us, but we were not new to Ulano and Fimor as we were their distributor since 1997-98.
David Eisenbeiss, Chairman of the Ulano Corporation was known to me since 1996. We were distributor for Ulano when we had retail business at Girgum in Mumbai. In fact David is like my brother and he never treated me like a distributor. After I sought support from David about starting a new venture, I also met Tetsuo Emori San, President of Nittoku-Japan. I must add here that Japanese take time to give ‘hand-shake’ of trust, but once they get convinced they maintain relationship like a ‘marriage’ of understanding. Since David knew Japanese language, it was easier to develop and build relationship with Tetsuo Emori San and involve Nittoku in our new venture. So, finally after a joint meeting in Germany, with the support of Ulano and Nittoku we established Skyscreen Pvt Ltd.
Since we are dealing in screen printing, we felt Garment printing was a missing segment in our portfolio. My friend Martin introduced Stahls to me at one of the international expos. In addition to the hard core screen printing materials business, to grow further in the business we needed some additional attractive product portfolio, something Gen-Next. Stahls product added the digital and heat transfer element into our business. Stahls’ kit is meant for starting personalized t-shirt printing business. We have a special Stahls’ Studio cum demo centre at Sion in Mumbai, spread over 600 sq. ft where customers come for trials and training. Moreover, we have also started offering personanlised t-shirt printing service to corporate and individual customers as we have a full-fledged facility there.
We offer a unique service of providing Ready-To-Print-Stencil Systems customized to screen printers needs. In India there aren’t many such service providers. Many printers do not have inhouse screen making set up, yet they want quality screens. Many offset printers who offer value addition do not have screen making set up. They also want quality stencils. We felt the necessity to start offering ready to use stencils. So, for the last ten years we have been offering ready to print stencils, in addition to ready to use screens. Our 7000 sq.ft facility situated at Bhiwandi houses this stencil making set up in addition to warehouse.
When I started, from day one I decided to focus on quality product, I mean, we intended to import and distribute only quality products, not the low grade/cheaper products. Quality products certainly carried some premium price but printers understood the difference between cheap and quality products, and disadvantage of low grade products and benefits of high grade products. Now customers are ready to pay for quality product.
