banaba, known scientifically as lagerstroemia, is a flowering tree that is native to the philippines and india, where it has been used for thousands of years as a treatment for digestive problems, kidney inflammation and diabetes. Anaba leaves contain a compound called corosolic acid, which has been identified as one of the main agents for banaba's glucose lowering effect. The corosolic acid in banaba leaves also makes a contribution to cancer treatment. An added benefit of taking banaba leaf extract is the holy grail---weight loss without dieting. An animal study published in the journal of nutritional science showed banaba leaf extract to not only regulate glucose, but also induce weight loss.
