A rapid and reliable method, which can be used by field workers, environmental health officers and community water volunteers to assess the microbial water quality and identify where potential problems exist in the drinking water quality management process. Result is obtained in 24 hours!.
The H2S strip test allows the microbial quality of drinking water to be assessed in the field without the use of expensive laboratory equipment. The method is an inexpensive, simple and visual method where a water sample changes colour, turning black, if it is contaminated.
 
It is light, easy to use and portable. It is suggested that the H2S strip test be used as a screening test, particularly in areas where water quality testing cannot be normally carried out.
