Atorvastatin

Fenostat is available as hard gelatin capsules for oral administration to treat mixed hyperlipidemia. In mixed hyperlipidemia, monotherapy of either statin or fibrate fails to achieve control on all lipid parameters. Because, Atorvastatin and Fenofibrate affect different aspects of lipoprotein metabolism. Fenostat with the combination of Atorvastatin and Fenofibrate is an effective therapeutic approach in mixed hyperlipidemia.
Atorvastatin is a selective, competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme that converts 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A to mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol. Thereby inhibits the cholesterol synthesis. Atorvastatin also decreases LDL cholesterol in plasma by upregulating LDL receptor activity. Atorvastatin primarily reduces total cholesterol (TC), LDL cholesterol and apo B.
