Astronomical Timer

Microcontroller based astronomical timer for streetlights has inputs like Real time, Date, Month, Year, plus and minus offset and with one or two outputs through relay. Inputs can be set through available tactile switches, respective mode LED’s and with help of seven-segment display. Memory of the unit has astronomical timings of the city with date wise yearly Lamp On and Lamp Off timings. Lamp ON and Lamp OFF timings are Astronomical timings of the year with Sunset and Sunrise Timings considering twilight time for the required city, as the date advances output relays gets ON as per the concurrent Lamp On Timing. In case if it is required to change Lamp ON and Lamp OFF timings, it can be done with help of plus and minus offset. Program protection key jack pin is provided to safeguard the SET program.
Micro controller’s RTC has battery backup for more than 10 years; hence the set program remains intact even in power failure condition. Enough precautions for line supply surge are taken. Three Output channel relays operate the electrical contactor that ultimately controls the streetlights. Manual override switch is provided for Manual and Auto operation.
Due to its versatile concept of switching at astronomical timings ( Sunset and Sunrise Timings considering twilight time throughout year) it gives saving in electrical units, which ultimately results in reduced electric bills and saving in carbon footprint.
