Antique Bayonet

A bayonet (from French "baïonnette") is a knife- or dagger-shaped weapon designed to fit on or over the muzzle of a rifle or similar weapon. It is a close combat weapon. The evolution of the bayonet can be traced to a certain extent to a fortuitous accident. The bayonet had a round handle that fit directly into the musket barrel. This naturally prevented the gun from being fired. Many socket bayonets were triangular in cross-section in order to provide sideways stability of the blade without much increase in weight. This design of bayonet did not include a handle to use the blade apart from the gun.
Bayonets are the pointed instruments of the dagger kind fitted on the muzzle of a musket or rifle, so as to give the soldier increased means of offense and defense. They usually are blades adapted to fit the muzzle end of a rifle and used as a weapon in close combat. The antique bayonets are available in a number of variations, the basic model comprising of: wood grips, held on by two flush screwnut sets; short crossguard, no muzzle-ring; steel pommel with push-buttoninternal-spring latch arrangement.

Skilled craftsmen with decades of valuable experience are adept in making the antique bayonets to their credit. Today the use of antique bayonets has been confined to as decorative items for homes & offices, for ceremonial purposes, as status symbols and for the collector.
